The papers were purchased by the National Library from Philip Mead in 1992.

The collection was arranged and listed by the donor before being transferred to the Library. The file titles and the arrangement of records within the files have been preserved by the Library. The Library has arranged the collection into 9 series which closely resemble alphabetical groupings made by Mead at the time of transfer to the Library.
