Background

Content Summary:
The collection comprises a biography of Dudley George Tong (1887-1973), an Australian of Chinese heritage, who served in World War I, 21 Battalion AIF and was later committed to Mayday Hills Asylum in Beechworth for over 40 years. The biography was created by Eileen Clark on behalf of the Beechworth Cemetery Trust, who sought an application to the Department of Veteran Affairs for Tong's grave to be marked to commemorate his war service. The biography includes details of Tong's family and medical history and his military service plus a photograph of his headstone.
