- The letter is signed by "family member on behalf of Hu Feng". It responds to Andrew's first two letters sent to Sichuan Province. Topics of Hu's health, Japanese writers Eguchi Kan (also known as Eguchi Kiyoshi) and Kaji Wataru are discussed. The letter from Hu's family states that for many years they had had no understanding of at all of "the situation outside".
