- The Department of Criminology, University of Melbourne came into existence in 1951 and began teaching in 1953. Barry was its foundation chairman, and Norval Morris its secretary. There is correspondence dating from 1951 until 1969 with Morris, Sir George Paton, S.W. Johnston, P. Brett, A. Morris, C. Turner and D. Derham concerning administration and copies of The Bulletin, 19 April and 3 May 1961 which commented on the internal affairs of the Department. The series also contains notes for lectures given by Barry, a collection of miscellaneous printed material, including time-tables, outlines of syllabi, photocopies of the series Selected pioneers of criminology published in the Journal of criminal law and police science, vols 45 and 46, and Barry's own article The utility of punishment.
