Content Summary:

In March 1960 Sir Garfield Barwick invited a member of the judiciary from each state to a conference in Canberra on the Matrimonial Causes Rules issued under the Matrimonial Causes Act (1959). Barry, who was responsible for the interpreting and applying the Act and Rules in Victoria, attended the conference.

The series includes correspondence with Barwick, Sir Arthur Rylah, Sir Henry Winneke, W.R. Dovey, E.H. Coghill and A. Heymanson, together with memoranda from the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, draft rules, a copy of the Matrimonial causes handbook, divorce statistics, printed material, press cuttings and two lectures Barry delivered in 1961 at the Univeristy of Melbourne entitled 'The hearing of matrimonial causes' and 'A general survey of the Act'.
