Content Summary:
In August 1960 John Barry was the senior Australian representative at the Second U.N. Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, held in London. On that occasion he presided over a division of the Congress dealing with short term imprisonment. In September he attended the Fourth International Congress on Criminology at the Hague. During this trip Barry kept a diary, which, together with correspondence concerning arrangements for the trip, conclusions of the U.N. Congress, Journals 1-9 of the Congress, printed material from both meetings and the report submitted to R.G. Menzies on his return, make up the series.
