The Third National Conference of the Australian After-Care Council was held in Hobart over the period 25-30 January 1965. The official guest at the conference was V.N. Pillai, director of the UNAFEI, from Fuchu, Japan.

Barry, in his paper entitled The purpose of punishment, called for the establishment by the Commonwealth Government of an Australian Institute of Criminal and Penal Science. The conference recommended that the Commonwealth and State governments should establish a system of national crime statistics.

This series includes correspondence with V.N. Pillai, Bruce Piggott and J.H. McClemens concerning travel arrangements for the conference, notebooks, a copy of Barry's address, printed matter and press reports.
