- As chairman of the Department of Criminology at the University of Melbourne, Barry was increasingly disturbed by the inadequacy of criminal statistics, and spoke on this subject on many occasions, notably at the Third National Conference of the Australian After-Care Council in 1965 and at a seminar on the Control of Deviant Behaviour in Australia in 1968. The series contains correspondence concerning the need for crime statistics, dating from 1958 until 1968. Correspondents include W.D. Borrie, Sir Samuel Carver, Lord Casey, Sir Kenneth Bailey, Sir Garfield Barwick, N. Bowen, E.J. Hook and C.W. Harders.
