Background

Content Summary:
This collection comprises correspondence sent by Carol Jerrems to her friend and fellow photographer Jon Conte from 1970 to 1973, and one vintage silver gelatin photograph. Rather than traditional letter, the correspondence between Carol and Jon took the form of a 'Dadaist ping-pong', or collages of everyday life. It consists of 23 envelopes with ephemera, including snippets of Carol Jerrems' writing. The collection provides an insight into Carol Jerrems' sense of humour, lifestyle, and personality. Some envelopes are signed by Carol Jerrems under a pseudonym, such as Jerry Moonshine, Jerry, Phenomenologically Jerry, Micky Spillane of the Nullarbor Plain, Jonny Sunshiner, A Free Apple, Lorac Smerrej, or Germaine Eunuch. The 24 jigsaw puzzle pieces photograph is a portrait of Jon Conte with his incomplete appearance.
