Background

Content Summary:

This collection comprises the personal papers of Robert (Robbie) Swan and documents his life and career as a radio producer, publisher, journalist and lobbyist for the adult entertainment industry. Swan was founding editor of Matilda magazine in the 1980s and became involved in the burgeoning adult entertainment industry in Canberra as lobbyist for the Adult Video Industry Association, consequently becoming involved in debates and campaigns around censorship. In 1992 he teamed up with partner, Fiona Patten, to form the Eros Foundation and later co-founded the Australian Sex Party (now the Reason Party).

The papers include correspondence, reviews, photographs, manuscripts, published items, reports and audio-visual material. They relate to Swan's early life and teenage years, involvement with transcendental meditation, work in radio with 2xx and Phillip Adams at 2UE, magazines including Simply Living, Matilda and Ecstasy, involvement with OZ magazine and Richard Neville, the Eros Foundation, censorship campaigning and the National Museum of Erotica collection.
