- Log books for 27 voyages from England and Scotland to Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Hong Kong, 1861-1875. There are also 54 'Agreements and accounts of crews', 1862-1900 for separate voyages to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Thailand and elsewhere.

The log books in this collection were originally held in the records of the Registrar-General of Shipping in the Public Record Office in London. In about 1970 it was decided to retain only a sample of the holdings of log books. The collection was split between various institutions, with the largest collection going to the University of Newfoundland. A sample of log books of Australian interest was selected for the National Library by Alan Villiers in 1971.
