Background
- Content Summary:
- The collection consists mainly of the administrative files of Phyllis Mander-Jones and her assistants. They were created at the Australian High Commission in London during the compilation of Manuscripts in the British Isles relating to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. The records comprise research notes, manuscript, typescript and printed lists, correspondence and drafts of the publication. The correspondents include Phyllis Mander-Jones, Lindsay Cleland, Judith Baskin and Pat Millward.
- Provenance:
-
The papers were presented to the Library by Phyllis Mander-Jones in 1973. Additional drafts were received from the Australian National University Press in 1975 and 1979.
- Arrangement:
-
The files appear to have been kept in two sequences: (i) notes and lists (ii) correspondence. There is, however, some overlap between the two sequences. The correspondence files were arranged in a classified sequence, with each file having a unique number. The files of notes and lists were not usually numbered, but the arrangement was similar, based primarily on geography. In general, the original arrangement has been retained by the Library. The drafts of Manuscripts in the British Isles... (boxes 36-44) are in no particular order.
