- The collection comprises correspondence, diaries, speeches, newspaper cuttings, photographs and other papers relating mainly to Reg Withers' career as Senator for Western Australia and Lord Mayor of Perth. There are also drafts of anecdotes relating to political life, an essay on the Liberal Party and cuttings of Withers' newspaper column 'Withers' World'. The major correspondents include Sir Magnus Cormack, Sir Victor Garland, Sir David Brand, Hugh Guthrie, Sir Peter Lawler, Peter Charlton, Harry M. Miller, Sir James Cruthers, James B. Reginald Grieve Withers was born on 26 October 1924 in Bunbury, Western Australia, the son of Frederick J. Withers and Isobel L. Grieve. He was educated in Bunbury and at the University of Western Australia (1948-1951), where he studied law. He married Shirley Lloyd-Jones in 1953 and had 2 sons and 1 daughter.
