Content Summary:
The series comprises albums and loose newspaper cuttings, photographs and other documents relating primarily to Withers' political career from his unsuccessful contest for Mayor of Bunbury in 1955, his career in the Senate and as Lord Mayor of Perth. The cuttings document major political events as well as key events in Withers' life such as his sacking in 1978, car accident in 1983 and retirement in 1987. The cutting book (item 1) includes early cuttings relating to Joseph Withers and Frederick James Withers and references to Shirley Withers.
Immediate source of acquisition:
The collection was donated to the Library by Reg Withers in 1995.
