- Item PIC/21314/228
- Content Summary:
- Caption 'In 1908 the "Big Mine" was still the largest mine on the Broken Hill field. The mine dominated the town physically and economically. More men began mining with "the BHP" than with any other mine. However, by 1909 the BHP mine had exhausted its richest ore and the mine was entering its period of decline. The company gave little back to the town it spawned and contempt for BHP after the 1909 Lockout was common'. 'Plate 8' written on top right corner. Paper with typed text and photograph attached.
