Caption 'At the end of 1908 about 8,000 men depended for their living on the Broken Hill mines. Broken Hill mine workers were well paid by comparison with other mining centres. In 1908 wages men earned 8/7 1/2d a shift and contract miners earned about 14/- a shift. Pay day was a "gala day"'. 'Plate 19' written in top right corner. Paper with typed text and photograph attached.
