- Caption 'Horses remained the single most common form of transport about 1909. An unpleasant side-effect was the large amount of horse manure in streets and back-yard stables; Argent Street was the only street cleaning by the Council. Flies bred readily in the manure and in dry times reached plague proportions'. 'Plate 34' written on top right corner. Paper with typed text and photograph attached.
