Administrative records, 1962-92

Component identifier:
Series 12
Content Summary:

This series comprises the core of YACA records and contains files detailing most of YACA's activities. The records are arranged according to alpha-numeric codes with the prefixes A, B, C or D devised by YACA staff. Versions of the control lists for the codes are in files 1-2 and on computer disc in series 25. The control lists include headings which are not represented in the actual records. Also, different codes have been assigned to material on the same topic in different versions of the control lists. These anomalies are reflected in the records.

The files contain correspondence, memos, minutes, conference papers, addresses, issues papers, pamphlets, media releases, legislation, cuttings, articles, notes, newsletters, reports and other records.

The files were maintained by various YACA officers including the Executive Directors Michael Cusack, Michael Clohesy, Jane Folliott and Dorothy Smith as well as officers holding the positions of Field Liaison Officer, Policy Officer, IYY Officer, International Officer and President.

The A files relate to the structure, administration, finances and external dealings of YACA, and also to the Conference of Australian Youth Organisations (CAYO), The National Forum of State Youth Affairs Councils (NFSYAC) and the Nationwide Workers with Youth Forum (NWWYF);

The B files primarily relate to the 1985 International Youth Year while the C files relate to issues of importance to YACA and youth including youth accommodation, economic analysis, education, employment, the environment, health, human relations, income security, young women, Aboriginal youth and training. The D files relate primarily to international youth affairs and relationships with overseas youth organisations. The D files include files formerly maintained by NYCA, and files relating to the Australian Youth Foundation.

See series 13-26 for records which were not coded or arranged in the sequence.

Immediate source of acquisition:
The records were donated by the Australian Youth Policy and Action Coalition in 1994, 1995 and 1997.
