Most of the correspondence has been kept in files. The Library has preserved this arrangement and the titles of the files. Many of the correspondents are English academics. The subjects include their research, news of other academics, personal news and West's writings.
The correspondents include M.D. Knowles, J.G. Edwards, Max Gluckman, John Le Patourel, R.F. Treharne, V.H. Galbraith (File 1), Ralph Bulmer, E.J. Kenney, Sir Geoffrey Elton, G. Kitson Clark, Richard Mayne (File 2), Hanna Solf, the British Broadcasting Corporation, Encyclopaedia Britannica and the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Copies of some of West's letters are included.
