Background

Content Summary:
This collection contains background information gathered in the preparation of Abjorensen's biography of Liberal Party leader, John Hewson, together with typescripts of the work. Additional papers include transcripts of interviews with Margaret and Carolyn Hewson, material relating to leadership challenges by Andrew Peacock, correspondence and contract with Lothian Books, research files, press releases, speeches by Hewson, photocopies of newspaper cuttings and photographs used in the book.
Biographical Note:

Abjorensen has been a journalist for almost 30 years. He has been national editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, a special writer for the Age, political editor of the Sunday Herald and a feature writer for the Canberra Times. He also contributed chapters to recent books on Australian nationalism and the electoral process, and has taught journalism at the Royal Melbourne Institute Technology. His work John Hewson: a biography was published by Lothian Books in 1993.
