The correspondence in this series consists mainly of letters from educational institutions regarding Martin's participation in literary events. Also included is correspondence from the Victorian Council of Adult Education and the Melbourne University, Department of English regarding Martin's employment as a lecturer, correspondence from students and a letter from Percy Cerutty dated 16 February 1956.
After 1969, academic correspondence can be found in Series 1, general correspondence.
- Immediate source of acquisition:
- The main body of David Martin Papers was acquired partly under the Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme and partly by outright purchase by the National Library in September 1983. Additional instalments were purchased over the period 1985-97. The papers document the long career of one of Australia's most prolific writers.
