MS 4743 comprise notebooks, printed material and correspondence from the seminary years; photographs; cuttings, photocopies, notes and drafts of Parer's books Dreamer by day and Prophets and losses in the priesthood, and Samuel Angus; and correspondence with priests, friends, family, academics, and missionaries, which includes letters from Rev. Tony Peterson, Rev. Val Noone, Rev. Roger Pryke, Rev. David Pope and Archbishop Ronald Knox. Other papers concern the 1st Ecumenical Mission, Melbourne, 1964; the controversy surrounding the A.B.C. Television program 'This tiny ship in space,' and the associations of priests and ex-priests in Australia.
MS Acc23.009 comprises the research papers compiled when Michael Parer was working on a biography of Archbishop Daniel Mannix (1864-1963). The book was never realised. The papers include material created by Parer as well as material created by Mannix and includes correspondence, draft manuscripts, research papers, photograph albums, press cuttings, scripts and TV productions, scrapbooks, taped interviews and films. A feature of this collection is a framed Archbishop Mannix brass and brooch that was gifted to Michael Parer after his death.
MS Acc23.119 comprises a small addition located by Marta Edwards (Michael Parer's daughter) after the previous tranche was transferred. Consists of 4 folders containing Michael Parer film-making documents from the 1960s; "Tiny Ship in Space" - a controversial ABC television documentary of 1968 which Michael directed; Unsorted cuttings and correspondence and sample of newsletters of the various dissenting and reforming Catholic groups with which Michael Parer kept in touch.
