Background

Content Summary:

This collection contains approximately 2,415 items, mostly photographs, relating to a variety of geographic locations, time periods, creators, and topics. Key themes include Australian states, capital cities and regional towns; Australian and New Zealand artwork reproductions; prominent photographers including Nicholas Caire, Edward Haigh, Bernhardt Holtermann, Axel Poignant, and Heide Smith; international and domestic conferences; the Federation of Australia; Government ministries and political parties; daily life in Australia; New Zealand and the Pacific region; transport, including ships; theatre and dance; and World War I and World War II.

The collection is arranged alphabetically into 77 series which relate to the subjects, locations and creators found throughout the collection.

In instances where a single creator has 10 items or more attributed to them across the collection, a separate series has been created. For occasions, where creators have less than 10 items attributed to them, or items are not attributed to a creator, the items are allocated to the most relevant geographic or subject series.

For most Australian capital cities and select regional towns, there are individual series. Material from other locations are allocated to the most relevant geographic state series or subject series.

Within each series, items are arranged numerically by item number.
