Biography/History: Frederick John "Fred" Nile ED MLC (born 15 September 1934) is an Australian politician and ordained Christian minister. He is the longest serving member of New South Wales parliament, and has been a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 1981, except for a period in 2004 when he resigned to unsuccessfully contest the Australian Senate at the 2004 federal election. He is National President of the Christian Democratic Party, a conservative party which focuses primarily on moral and social issues, and he is noted for his controversial comments.
