Covers mainly printed materials issued by the parties, independents, lobby groups for both Houses of Parliament for most elections from 1901 to date including referenda. The range of ephemera includes bumper stickers, posters, visiting cards, cartoons, newspapers, electorate reports, postcards, voting forms. Features some unusual non-print political collectibles such as banners, balloons, flags, clothing, buttons, badges, hats, sound recordings, coffee bean poll. From 1996 it includes paper copies of material found on the Internet. All materials are either bound or unbound.
A guide to the Australian Democrats slogans and logo history up to 2004 is included with 1977 campaign material.
The list is based on imperfect holdings and is updated over time as gaps in the Library's holdings are filled.

Elections are for the House of Representatives and half the Senate. A simultaneous (or double) dissolution election is for both the House of Representatives and the entire Senate. Election dates since Federation: 1901, 1903, 1906 ; 1910, 1913, 1914 (double), 1917, 1919 ; 1922, 1925, 1928, 1929 (HR) ; 1931, 1934, 1937 ; 1940, 1943, 1946, 1949 ; 1951 (double), 1953 (half S), 1954 (HR), 1955, 1958 ; 1961, 1963 (HR), 1964 (half S), 1966 (HR), 1967 (half S), 1969 (HR) ; 1970 (half S), 1972 (HR), 1974 (double), 1975 (double), 1977 ; 1980, 1983 (double), 1984, 1987 (double) ; 1990, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019.
Referendums are the formal process of amending the Commonwealth Constitution of which there have been eighteen involving forty-two separate amendment attempts of which only eight have been carried. There have been eight occasions where the referendums have been held simultaneously with the elections in 1906, 1910, 1913, 1919, 1928, 1946, 1974, 1984. These maybe included here.
