Background

Biographical Note:

From 1866 to 1874 he was a member of the Queensland Legislative Council and Postmaster-General. In 1872 he married his second wife, Nora Barton, the daughter of Emily Mary Darvall (1817-1909). Nora's elder sister, Rose Barton (1844-1893) was the mother of the poet A.B. "Banjo" Paterson. Thomas Lodge Murray-Prior's eldest daughter was the writer Rosa Praed (1851-1935).
