Background

Biographical Note:

Christobel Rosemary Shepley was born in Adelaide in October 1931. She was educated at Presbyterian Ladies College, Pymble, The Friends School, Hobart and the University of Tasmania.

She began her working career as a librarian and teacher librarian in Australia and in England before becoming a fulltime writer and children's writer. She has written articles, film scripts and 34 children's books. Her first book for Brockhampton Press was Windmill at Magpie Creek.

Christobel Shepley married Cecil David Mattingley and lives at Stonyfell, South Australia with her husband and three children. Mattingley is a keen conservationist and worked as lecturer librarian, at the Murray Park College of Advanced Education.

Provenance:

The papers were purchased from Christobel Mattingley in several instalments between 1990 and 1994. Further papers were received in 2002 and 2012.
