Comprehensive collection of personal papers, correspondence and research materials relating to Walter Burley Griffin; town planning and urban development generally and specifically in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory; papers relating to official government and professional bodies including the National Capital Development Commission, National Capital Planning Committee, Design and Siting Review Committee, Royal Australian Institute of Architects, Royal Australian Planning Institute; and papers relating to his activities as a Canberra planning activist.
Biographical / Historical:

Peter Firman Harrison was born in Brisbane on 28 October 1918 and grew up in Rose Bay, Sydney. He was educated at the Sydney Technical College (Diploma in Architecture, 1942), the University of Sydney (Diploma in Town and Country planning, 1950) and the University of New South Wales (Master of Architecture, 1970).

In 1972 he was awarded the Sidney Luker Memorial Medal for services to town and regional planning in Australia and in 1980 was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). He was a Life Fellow of both the Royal Australian Planning Institute and the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. Harrison died in Canberra on 30 October 1990.

Immediate Source of Acquisition:

The papers were donated to the Library by Sheila Harrison in 1991. Small additions were made by Mrs Harrison in 1996 and by Ed Wensing in 1997.
