- MS 9978 comprises an electronic draft (249 p) of Barton's book Weapons detective: the inside story of Australia's top weapons inspector. Contains material not included in published version. Together with copies of emails sent to Barton following the release of the book (1 folder, 1 computer disk), UNESCOM notebooks, photo albums containing images of Iraq's chemical weapon's productions plants and photographs taken by Barton in Somalia during 1993-1994

Barton was one of four UN weapons inspectors involved in uncovering Iraq's biological weapons program. Later he became special advisor to Hans Blix and, after the 2003 war, returned to Iraq to take part in the attempt of the 'Coalition of the Willing' to locate weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). Barton is one of the few people who was involved in the search for WMDs from beginning to end.
