Content Summary:
The collection comprises a typescript manuscript of a partial autobiography 'A classical education',correspondence, speeches, speech notes, lectures, articles, drafts of writings, photographs, cuttings, diaries and publications.
Biographical / Historical:

Academic and classicist. Mervyn Neville Austin was Professor of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Western Australia from 1952 until 1978. After his retirement from the University, he was appointed Emeritus Professor and was the Warden of Convocation, 1980-1982. His publications include, The presence of the past (1952), and, An ignorant man thinking: essays and addresses (1961). Austin was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1981 in recognition of service to education.
