Content Summary:
Letters, diaries, certificates, publications, photographs, family papers, papers relating to Australian Association of Occupational Therapists and the Margaret Reid Orthopaedic Hospital. There are also letters from missionaries in China, whom Charis visited in 1929.
Biographical Note:

Occupational therapist, active church member with missionary links, Young also collected papers and documents of her family. Her father, Charles Ernest Young, was a prominent sugar planter. One of her ancestors, Admiral Sir George Young, was one of the first to suggest settlement at Botany Bay. Charis was carer for her sister, Marjorie L. Young.

Provenance:

The papers were acquired from Charis Young's Estate, which was administered by her nephew, Peter L. Young. His sister, Patricia Braga, and her husband Stuart oversaw their transfer to the National Library of Australia.

Arrangement:

Patricia Braga and her husband, Stuart Braga, arranged and listed the papers before they were deposited with the National Library of Australia. For some groups of papers they have provided additional historical/family information which is included with the papers. They have also provided details for many of the photographs in the collection.
