Background

Content Summary:

The records of the Admiralty and Secretariat filmed by the Australian Joint Copying Project cover the records of the Admiralty Office up to 1832 and of the Secretary's Department of the reorganised Board of Admiralty after that date.

Amongst the records filmed by the Australian Joint Copying Project are ships musters, the Logbooks of Admiral's and other Officers, correspondence of the Admiralty and Secretariat, correspondence of Medical Departments and the Sick and Hurt Board, and records of the Australia, China and Pacific Stations.

Many of these records relate to the exploration of Australia and the Pacific by European explorers, the transportation of convicts and the daily workings of naval vessels. Notable individuals detailed in these records include William Bligh and Matthew Flinders. Locations discussed in these records include Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands such as Samoa, Tonga and Fiji, as well as Singapore.
