1. Journal and sketches 1842 of a voyage in the Tuscan from London to Auckland. It contains detailed descriptions of his short stay in Melbourne and of his long period of residence in New Zealand. There are many drawings of buildings.
2. Notebook in narrative form describing in detail his New Zealand and Australian visit, including many references to contacts with missionaries and Maori people, to political events and social and economic conditions.
3. Notebook 1844-45 of reminiscences of his journey to Batavia and Hong Kong and his residence in the colony.
4. Sketchbook and loose drawings of the landscape, buildings, people, flora and fauna of New Zealand, Australia, Batavia, China and Gibraltar; maps of Gibraltar and Macao.
5. Photograph of Ashworth's tombstone.

- {"persname":"Edward Ashworth (1814-1896)","content":"\u003cspan class='persname'\u003eEdward Ashworth (1814-1896)\u003c/span\u003e was employed as an architect and surveyor in Exeter, Devon. In 1841, after years of disappointment in his profession, he was won over by accounts of the future prospects of the colonies in Australia and New Zealand. He emigrated to Port Phillip in 1842 and after a few months he moved on to Auckland. He returned to Australia in 1844 and, after a short stay in Sydney, he sailed for England via Batavia and Canton."}
