Background

Content Summary:
Diary kept by Holmes on the journey to Australia on board the Earl Granville 13 December 1880-14 April 1881, and eight letters to his parents in Cambridge. The letters refer to life in Australia and family news. Also includes education certificate and memoriam for James Hall.
Biographical / Historical:

Charles Holmes arrived in Australia in 1881. He lived in Rockhampton, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
