Journal kept by Henry Harding on the Ida on a voyage from Birkenhead to Melbourne, 24 March – 9 July 1853.

The journal contains short entries referring to sea-sickness, the weather, a funeral at sea, the deaths of children, church services, meals, the shooting of an albatross, the sighting of Cape Otway and the arrival at Port Phillip. There are no references to cheese.

Owing to ink seeping through from the reverse page, the diary is difficult to read.
