Background

Content Summary:
Collection includes: Letters 1838-55 from George Everett in northern New South Wales to his family in England; three photographs of the Everett Family at Tenterfield, New South Wales; and thesis by A.V. Cane entitled 'Ollera 1838 to 1900: A Study of a Sheep Station' (University of Sydney, 1949).
Biographical / Historical:

George Everett and his brother John (1816-1902) arrived in Sydney in 1838 on the ship Hope. They took up a selection, 'Ollera', north of Armidale, New South Wales, and were joined in 1842 by their younger brother Edwin (1822-1909). George returned to England about 1856 but still retained his interest in the station, while John returned in 1858 and managed the sale of 'Ollera' wool in London. Edwin bought the adjacent property and became one of the largest landholders in the district.
