The material filmed by the Australian Joint Copying Project includes scrapbooks 1923-46 of Lady Stonehaven and photograph albums 1889-89 and 1927-30 of Lady Hilda Keith-Falconer. They include content relating to Canberra, Central Australia, New Guinea, South Australia, Hobart, Singapore, New Zealand and Malaysia.
Biographical / Historical:

Sir John Lawrence Baird (1874-1941), 2nd Baronet (succeeded 1920), 1st Baron Stonehaven (created 1925), 1st Viscount Stonehaven (created 1938), was the son of Sir Alexander Baird. He was born in London and was educated at Eton College and, briefly, Christ Church, Oxford. In 1894 he came to Australia as aide-de-camp to Sir Robert Duff, the governor of New South Wales. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1896 and served in Vienna, Cairo, Abyssinia and Paris. He was a Conservative member of the House of Commons from 1910 to 1924. He held junior offices in the Coalition Government led by David Lloyd George from 1916 to 1922 and was minister of transport in the first ministry of Stanley Baldwin (1922-24). In 1925 he was appointed Governor-General of Australia and held the post until 1930. In 1927 he became the first occupant of Government House in Canberra. On his return to England, he was chairman of the Conservative Party from 1931 to 1936.Usually known by her middle name Sydney, Lady Ethel Sydney Keith-Falconer (1874-1974), Baroness Stonehaven, was born in Scotland. She was the eldest daughter of Algernon Keith-Falconer (1852-1930), 9th Earl of Kintore, and his wife Sydney Charlotte. She lived in Adelaide from 1889 to 1893 during the term of her father as governor of South Australia. During those years she travelled with her parents to other Australian colonies and also New Zealand. She married John Baird in 1905 and they had two sons and three daughters. She accompanied her husband to Australia in 1925-30. On their return they to Britain they lived at Ury House and Rickarton House, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Lady Stonehaven visited Australia again in 1938 and 1949, accompanied by her daughter, Ava Baird, in 1938 and by her sister, Hilda Keith-Falconer, in 1949. She succeeded her brother as 12th Countess of Kintore in 1966.
