Background

Content Summary:
Autobiographical account of life in Mexico, Scotland, England and New South Wales, and manuscripts of The Physical and Historical Geography of Australia and Walks on Deck and Rambles on Shore during a Voyage of Circumnavigation of the Globe.
Biographical / Historical:

Businessman. In 1835 Macintyre entered into a partnership with Arthur Willis to form a commission and agency business in Sydney. He migrated to Australia in 1835-36. Willis, Macintyre Co. was dissolved in 1837 and Macintyre subsequently spent a good deal of time travelling in Australia and researching its history and geography. He returned to England in 1840 and published Thoughts on Population and Starvation (1841). Macintyre made a brief visit to Australia in 1853.
