Content Summary:

Scott family papers: 20 letters 1819-52 written to Miss Scott of Sandgate Hall, Penrith, by M.J. (Mrs John) Wood of Sydney and her daughter Mary, who married a Mr Lowe of Bathurst. The letters contain comments on conditions in the colony, and on family, church and political affairs.

Crerar papers: correspondence 1938-39 between Dr J.W. Crerar of Maryport, Cumberland, and Alexander Morrison, Town Clerk, Adelaide, concerning the introduction in Australia of municipal elections by means of secret ballot. Thomas English, Mayor of Adelaide 1862-1863 and a native of Maryport, claimed to have introduced the practice to Australia.

Papers of Ken Graham, Dalton and Kennedy of High Crosby: Chart of Swan River 1827; map of the Vasse district, Western Australia; letters 1829-37 from Georgiana Molloy and her husband John, written on board ship and after their arrival in Western Australia to Georgiana's mother and brothers in Rugby and Cheltenham. The letters include descriptions of the Swan River settlement, Augusta and Cockburn Sound, local and domestic news, and notes on the excursion to the Vasse district in January 1833.

Four letters 1854-58 from John Gibson, stonemason of Parramatta, to his mother in England. One letter dated 1874 refers to the probable death of Gibson.

McMorrans scrapbook. Two volumes of photographs accompanied by an index. Archie and John McMorran migrated to Australia in 1884, their nephew James arrived in Australia in 1911.

Madgen Family letters 1854-86. Correspondence of Stephen Madgen to his family in England; letters of Samuel and Margaret White of Ipswich, Queensland, to the Madgens. The letters include news of conditions on the gold diggings in Victoria, New Zealand and Queensland, noting local prices and referring to coal mining and cotton growing in Queensland. The final letter is from Robson and Mary Urwin, describing conditions in Adelaide.

F.W. Woolworth , Whitehaven. Conveyance dated 23 June 1905, referring to premises in Whitehaven. Document includes reference to James Wilfred Marsden of Nelson, New Zealand.

Printed material: A General Chart Exhibiting the Discoveries Made by Capt. James Cook in This and his Two Preceding Voyages, by Lieut. Henry Roberts of His Majesty's Royal Navy (n.d.); A New and Complete Chart of the World, displaying the tracks of Capt. Cook, by T. Bowen (n.d.), bound as part of A Treatise on Naval Affairs (1790); Obituary from the Carlisle Journal, 28 March 1871, of Francis Jollie, agent in Nelson of the New Zealand Company, and former Colonial Treasurer.

Diary April-July 1863 of Joshua Hughes on a voyage from Liverpool to Brisbane on the Montmorency, recording the weather, life on board the ship, and sightings of porpoises, flying fish and other ships. The diary ends with his first few days in Brisbane.

Diary 1898 of John Swainson Littlewood on a voyage from Liverpool to Adelaide and Port Augusta on the Oakhurst.
