- Two journals covering the voyages to Australia, and Mitchell's travels in New South Wales and Java in 1820 and 1822.
- Biographical / Historical:

James Mitchell (c. 1793-1858). Entered the Royal Navy as assistant surgeon in 1811 before becoming Acting Surgeon in 1813. Mitchell served in North America, 1813-1817, including at the Battle of Plattsburg in February 1814. He was confirmed as surgeon 8th March 1817. Served as Surgeon on the convict ships Neptune and Guildford on three voyages to New South Wales. On the second voyage of the Guildford, 1923-1924, Mitchell suffered a mental and physical collapse and on return to England was admitted to the lunatic asylum at Haslar.
