The volumes contain descriptions and water-colours of artworks he had seen exhibited; summaries and illustrations of lectures of the Zoological Society attended by Cotton; copies of poetry by Wordsworth, Byron, Spencer and others; comments on current events, a cholera epidemic, and nature observations including illustrations of insects and birds.
