Abstract Or Scope
This collection comprises primarily Ian Manning's working papers, research, theses, reports and consulting paperwork accumulated during his time at the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research in the mid 1980's and beyond. The records relate largely to his work within Victoria, but also his appointment overseas in China and South Africa and include handwritten notes, edited typescripts, tables, maps and research papers. Included are also documents, transcripts and submissions pertaining to the 'Poverty Inquiry' and the National Inquiry into Local Government.

Abstract Or Scope
The collection contains correspondence, drafts, typescripts and notes relating to books and articles written by McCarthy. Also included are reviews, radio scripts, diaries of McCarthy and his wife. Some of the correspondents are: Mrs E. Bean, Sir Paul Hasluck, Gough Whitlam, etc. The three main books are: "South-West Pacific area first year: Kokoda to Wau" (vol. 5 of "Australia in the war of 1939-45); "The fate of O'Loughlin" and "Gallipoli to the Somme: the story of C.E.W. Bean".Additional papers document Dudley Mccarthy's professional life as Patrol Officer in Papua New Guinea, Australian Minister to United Nations in New York and as Ambassador to Mexico and Spain and . They include published books, photographs, notes and press clippings along with some childhood and family photographs.

MS 8429 contains material on Blubber Head Press and Dan Sprod's career as a librarian at both the National Library of Australia and the Morris Miller Library at the University of Tasmania, and author and editor of numerous books. There are also papers relating to his professional and research interests, including Tasmanian Art Advisory Board, Tasmanian Historical Research Association, Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts and the Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme. The papers, arranged into 14 series, include correspondence, research material, notes, handwritten drafts, typescripts, financial papers, minutes of meetings and reports.MS Acc07.077 comprises a letter from Ira Raymond, of the Australian Consulate, New York, to Dan Sprod dated 31 October, 1956.MS Acc10.033 comprises papers reflecting Sprod's roles as publisher and writer. They include: correspondence relating to books published by Blubber Head Press and books written by Sprod, together with Sprod's research, grant applications and speaking engagements; draft proofs of various publications; and business records. Publication titles represented in the papers include: Major Mitchell's map 1834: the saga of the survey of the nineteen counties, by Alan E.J. Andrews (1992); A salute to watercolour, by Max Angus (1996); Sprod's The usurper: Jorgen Jorgenson and his turbulent life in Iceland and Van Diemen's Land 1780-1841 (2001); and his Leichhardt's expeditioners: in the Australian wilderness 1844-1845 (2006). In addition there are papers relating to the Ludwig Leichhardt Expedition Exposition in Queensland in 2004.MS Acc22.018 includes research notebooks for Dan Sprod's various publications, appointment diaries covering the period 1960 to 2018, and correspondence. Correspondents include other National Library of Australia staff members Mollie Thomson, Charles Dornbusch and Ira Raymond. The collection also includes one small notebook related to Sprod's move with his wife and three young sons to take up the position in the Australian Consulate General office in New York.

The original instalment MS Acc09.179 comprises research material on various topics including Chloe MacMillan, gold transfer from Nazi Germany to Lisbon, Salazar, Macau, Huambo, Luanda; documents relating to East Timor including lists of military equipment in use, United Nations documents, Timorese Constitution, 2006 violence; correspondence with Noam Chomsky on East Timor, Francesc Vendrell, United Nations, Helen Clark, Herb Feith, Arthur Tange, Francis James, Kevin Sherlock; publications including articles arising from Jolliffe's interviews with Xanana Gusmao and Konis Santana; articles by Jolliffe as filed to commissioning newspapers; photographs, mostly taken in East Timor and others from Angola, Portugal, Guinea-Bissau, China, Burma, Azores, Macau; news clippings of Jolliffe's articles; journalistic and research notebooks; videos and audio tapes of stories and radio broadcasts concerning East Timor; ephemera including press cards, invitations, exhibition catalogues and World War II propaganda.The MS Acc11.188 instalment comprises manuscript and published material relating to Portugal and its colonies, specifically East Timor and Angola with some references to Macau. MS Acc11.034 comprises papers collected by Mason during the writing of a book on Australian oologists, 1835-2009. They consist largely of an alphabetical sequence of files containing information on approximately 250 egg collectors, including personal details, photographs, correspondence, family histories and lists of egg clutches they collected.MS Acc22.028 comprises reference material that Ian J. Mason collated and created for use in: "Passions in Ornithology: A Century of Australian Egg Collectors. And Passions in Ornithology: A Century of Australian Egg Collectors (Supplementary Edition)". It includes: biographical accounts of egg collectors; photographs, negatives and prints relating to birds and egg collecting including an album of bird photographs from Norman Chaffer and J. Ramsay; correspondence, notes, articles and egg data cards and among others.

Abstract Or Scope
The collection comprises papers, correspondence, cards, recorded interviews and photographs relating to Norman 'Val' St Leon's working life. The bulk of the original consignment relates to St Leon's employment as a navigator and pilot with Qantas, and his career in the RAAF during the Second World War. Included in corespondence is a Christmas card St Leon sent to his father while serving with the RAAF in North Africa in 1941. These cards provide further insight into St Leon's experience in wartime aviation as well as providing an example of the kinds of material that was produced for members of the RAAF to send home.There is also a large amount of written material from his Master of Letters, and essays and lectures written on aviation, particularly in relation to Qantas' industrial agreement. The recorded interviews are with Margaret Throsby of ABC Radio on the internal pilot's strike, Bill Bulson of 2MBS, Ron Yates, former CEO Qantas, Don Gray of Qantas, and Bert Smithwell, also of Qantas. This collection includes a recording of a Boeing 747 SIM checkout and flying training session.

Of particular interest are the items which record his significant role as the National Capital Development Commissioner, together with his long association with planning for New Parliament House, including chairmanship of the New Parliament House Design Competition. Also incuded Included are plaques and several medals, for town planning, architecture as well as Overall's KB and OBE.

The collection comprises two detailed manuscript ledgers from Otto Boettger's practice as an optician (1886-1894), together with one volume of approximately 275 bound invoices, chronologically arranged, covering importations for his extensive engineering, surveying, optical and scientific instruments business (1892-1900). It presents a collection of unique records documenting a specialised profession in colonial Australia. The first ledger (20 October 1886 -15 July 1892), contains 21 pages of index and 102 pages of the ledger proper. Each page is designed to record the details of nine patients and the last entry is numbered 916. The second ledger (16 July 1892- 19 December 1894), contains 39 pages of index and 298 pages of the ledger proper, with each page containing details of seven patients (approximately 2086 individual records). The ledgers contain the name of the patient, often the address, the date of the consultation, the referring doctor, the prescription for the lens for each eye, and more often than not, specific details of the spectacle lenses or frames e.g. pale blue periscopic lenses / gold frame / twisted curled sides; Gold Pince-nez, Canadian; pantoscopic frame; and extra small children's frame made to order.

The collection comprises papers of Ernest Henry Stanley, who was an Australian railway engineer and writer, and includes correspondence with the editor of The Bulletin magazine, correspondence with the former Australian Prime Minister Andrew Fisher, correspondence and photographs regarding the New Australia settlement in in Paraguay, photographs of various places and railways in South America, genealogy reports regarding Stanley's family history; plus newspaper clippings, diary, documents and publications relating to Stanley's career.
