The books and papers of Gordon H. Luce, the eminent scholar of Burmese history, were purchased from his family in 1980, one year after his death. Further additional papers were received in 1985 and 1987.

MS 7692 comprises draft scripts, notes, business and personal correspondence, fan mail, photographs, theatre programs, posters, music scores and clippings documenting Archer's musical shows, plays, songs and publications. Also included are the papers of Diana Manson, former partner and personal manager of Archer. These papers mostly relate to Archer's career, but also document the activities of Manson's management companies Black and Blue Inc. and Diehard Productions, including contract negotiation and publicity. Papers relating to Manson's professional association with performers Meryl Tankard, Jeannie Lewis, Jane Clifton and Noni Hazelhurst and with Hessian Records, are in this part of the collection. There is also correspondence, subject files, drafts and files relating to the National Festival of Australian Theatre (79 boxes, 3 fol. boxes).

Records relating to surveys carried out by Royal Navy warships and surveying vessels in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, including surveys of the coasts and adjoining islands and reefs of Australia and New Zealand. The bulk of the records filmed date from 1828 to 1855, when Sir Francis Beaufort was Hydrographer, but many later letters, reports and sailing directions have also been copied. Among the records filmed are extracts from journals and logs, remark books, sailing directions, reports, letters and survey data books and also selected items from the minute-books 1825-1856 and letter-books 1815-1855 of the Hydrographic Department.

Ulrich Ellis was Political Secretary to the Federal Country Party Leader from 1928-1936, and the papers in the first consignment particularly cover the formation and history of the Country Party throughout Australia. They include correspondence, pamphlets, policy speeches, minutes of meetings, press cuttings and notes for Ellis's book A History of the Australian Country Party, 1963. They concern Sir Earle Page, Bruce, Lyons and Menzies among others.

MS 9940 documents Meryl Tankard's career from her early engagement with The Australian Ballet and her work with the Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal to her later independent and collaborative freelance projects up until 2002. It includes programs, press clippings, photographs and conceptual and production notes for works created by Tankard, particularly Echo Point (1984), Travelling Light (1986), Two Feet (1988), The Deep End (1996) and Deep Sea Dreaming (2000) for the Sydney Olympics opening ceremony. A significant component of the collection is business documents and correspondence relating to the activities of the Meryl Tankard Company and Meryl Tankard Australian Dance Theatre (29 boxes + 2 map folios).

The papers document Newton's role as a financial writer for the New York Post and as an adviser to bankers, sharebrokers and politicians, as well as a prolific publicist and columnist. They include correspondence, faxes, diaries, cutting books, photographs, tapes, videos, newsletters and magazines. With the exception of the photograph albums, the papers date almost entirely from Newton's years in America and there is very little on his career in Australia.
