Papers of Damian Smith relating to Sidney Nolan, c.1948-1982

0.45 metres (1 medium folio box)
Abstract Or Scope
The collection primarily comprises tins and small envelopes from the estate of Sidney Nolan. Inscribed with "Central Australia 1948", these containers originally housed 35 mm negatives from Sidney Nolan's trip through Central Australia. Note that the negatives themselves are held by the estate of Lady Mary Nolan and do not form part of the National Library's Nolan collections. Damian Smith obtained the containers when he worked as the inaugural archivist for the Sidney Nolan estate. Smith was later assigned the publishing rights by Lady Mary Nolan to Sidney Nolan's photographs from the years 1949-1952. Also included in the collection is a post-production script for the film "Sidney Nolan: an Australian dream" - a co-production between Don Bennetts and the Australian Broadcasting Commission, 1982, which was given to Smith by Don Bennetts.
