Includes photographs of various places in Australia, namely, Magnetic Island, Bowen, Rockhampton, South Molle Island, Normanton, Cloncurry, and, Townsville in Queensland, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, Fort Denison, and St. Mary's and St. Stephen's churches, and the ANZAC Memorial in Sydney, Provisional Parliament House and Australia War Memorial in Canberra, RAAF Bases in Richmond, Bowen, Inverleigh, Pearce, and Torrens Creek, and, University of Western Australia. Some photographs were taken overseas, including Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Japan and Indonesia. The collection also includes many portraits, and images using experimental exposure techniques.

The collection comprises correspondence, notes, typescripts, proofs and drawings relating to fourteen of Hanrahan's novels and some unpublished works. Hanrahan's first novel The scent of eucalyptus is not represented. Also included in the papers are her diaries and notebooks (1958-91).

Major correspondents include the Australia Council, Carmen Blacker, Tess van Sommers d'Alpuget, Dorothy Green, Michael Heyward (author of The Ern Malley affair), Henry Horwege, Stewart's patron Heinz Karrer, Peter Kelly, the potter Milton Moon, Ruth Niland (Park), Peter Talbot Wilcox, and John Weatherhill Inc.
On 1 July 1988 the Australian Advisory Council on Bibliographic Services (AACOBS) merged with the Australian Libraries and Information Council (ALIC) to form the Australian Council of Libraries and Information Services (ACLIS). A voluntary association, ACLIS represented the interests of more than 900 member libraries and information services, lobbying governments on strategic issues and fostering national cooperation until its disbandment in December 1998. As well as supporting research projects and providing services to members, the Council played a major role in the development of initiatives and services such as the Distributed National Collection, standardised collection policies, collection evaluation (Conspectus), regional networking, the national bibliographic database, interlibrary loans and preservation of library materials.
