Personal and family correspondence 1842-1848, including letters of introduction and recommendation. Other correspondence concerns surveys in HMS Samarang and HMS Vernon near Mauritius, and reports from Sir William Parker in Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong and from the China Station. Includes letters from Capt. Alexander Maconochie seeking a loan from Cochrane and letters mentioning piracy, and the treatment of scurvy on convict ships.

Abstract Or Scope
The collection covers the period from 1889 to 1964, although only a small number ofpapers have survived from before 1910. Correspondence makes up a large proportion of thecollection. As the letters are nearly all personal in their content and are seldomrestricted to any particular subject, activity or interest, it was not practicable todivide them into series; instead they have all been kept in one chronological sequence.Many of the letters are those which passed between Vance and Nettie on the occasionsthey spent apart. Most of the remainder are from people who have achieved some standingin Australian literary history.

The papers consist of correspondence, notes, memoranda, booklets, statements, minutes of meetings and reports concerning the Japanese economy and the various committees of which Anderson was a member, particularly the Pacific Basin Economic Co-op. Committee, the Associated Chambers of Manufactures of Australia and the Australian-Japan Business Cooperative Committee. There are also the financial statements of Canberra Television Ltd. for 1971-1972, and reports and memoranda by Anderson addressed to the Federal Executive and executives of the State Chambers of the ACMA regarding the work of the International Labour Office, examinations of its decisions and copies of some official correspondence.
