Diary in two volumes. Vol. 1 (1 March 1841 - 4 May 1851): Includes the voyage from England to Australia (March 1841 - June 1841) and details Hamilton's life selling stock and running a property on the Lachlan River, west of Bathurst. Also included is a page of biographical details written by Hamilton and a list of letters sent and received (June 1841 – August 1844). Vol. 2: Contains a highly detailed description of the gold rush in the Bathurst region (1851-1852). The author provides accounts of experiences prospecting at Summer Hill Creek, buying and selling gold in the Bathurst region, and issuing licenses as Gold Commissioner for the Lower Turon River, Ophir, and Abercrombie goldfields (October 1851 – September 1852). Includes comments on the effect of the gold rush on the colony, the religious life of the district, an account of the Governor's visit to the goldfields, and journeys to Melbourne to sell stock in 1853. Also includes a typescript copy of memoirs (1841-1858, 59 pages) and a page of biographical details of the Hamilton family.

The second, records his adventures in the goldfields of Coolgardie, Western Australia. The third diary records his return voyage to England via the Suez Canal.

Collection comprises a diary in seven volumes, primarily written continuously by Felton Mathew from 3 August 1829-December 1835. Volume 1. Journal kept by Mathew during voyage to Australia per Morley 3 August-3 December 1829, in same volume as diary of Felton Mathew recording his surveying work in the Hawkesbury and Hunter District from 1 January 1830 to 13 September 1832. Also includes loose diary entries dated December 1829 to December 1835. (1 volume); Five volumes (numbered 2 to 6), 20 February, 1833-3 May 1834, containing diary of Mrs Felton (Sarah) Mathew, 20 February 1833- 3 May 1834; [Volume 7]. 1. Journal of a voyage from Liverpool to Melbourne May-July 1854 on the Red Jacket. It is a day-to-day record of the voyage, noting events and commenting on passengers and crew as well as weather conditions and distance travelled. The journal also contains notes referring to land sales around Melbourne, costs of buildings, business transactions (especially with George Squiers) and rough sketches of the campsites on the goldfields around Castlemaine, Victoria.
