The collection was assembled by Bower, containing: I. Letters of Edward Murray, a convict transported to Tasmania, 1834. II. Letters and journal of Sarah Harrison, who emigrated to Melbourne in 1884. The journal describes her journey from Hyde (near Stockport, Cheshire) in April, arriving in Melbourne in July 1884. III. Transcripts for items I and II.

One letter from Wesleyan missionary Reverend Stephen Rabone to his parents, written 3 October 1835 at Hobart, Van Diemens Land. The letter includes a description of convict chain gangs, their dress, their punishment and Rabone's compassionate horror at their treatment; a description of agriculture in the Hobart region; discussion of fellow missionary Reverend Nathaniel Turner's offer to teach Rabone some Tongan prior to Rabone taking up a mission at Tonga; a description of Governor George Arthur and how he visited Turner and Rabone's chapel several times; and mention of his wife, Eliza's, pregnancy.

Letters of Joseph Paul Gaimard and Jean Rene Constant Quoy to Louis de Freycinet, 1826-1831

Group of thirteen letters written between 15 February 1826 and 11 November 1831 sent from a range of locations by the two scientists to Louis de Freycinet, predominantly during the first Pacific voyage of Dumont d'Urville on the Astrolabe. Of note in the correspondence is a description of the discovery of the fate of the La Perouse voyage of 1788. Correspondence mostly written by Gaimard with the active participation of Quoy.

Consists of seven letters (one incomplete) chiefly written to Charlotte Lord. Four of these letters are from Charlotte's brother William S. Noyes, writing from Tasmania, and commenting on conditions in Tasmania and New Zealand. Also included in the collection is a letter from John Lord (Charlotte's husband) to Mrs Papineau, governess of their two children, in London, 1830.

Letters from Australia and New Zealand to Rev. John Bonar, convenor of the Colonial Committee of the Free Church of Scotland, January 1851-November 1854. Bound in a single volume, including copies and extracts, the letters are arranged chronologically with an index at the beginning of the volume. The volume contains a few other items including reports from Auckland and Otago on the Presbyterian Church, extracts of minutes, a completed questionnaire and a few other printed items.

Thesis by Patrick F. Murray entitled 'Calendar of the Overseas Missionary Correspondence of All Hallows College, Dublin, 1842-77' (MA thesis, University College, Dublin, 1956). As well as the calendar itself, the thesis includes a history of the College and of each overseas diocese, arranged by geographic area, such as Australasia, then alphabetically by diocese.
