Abstract Or Scope
The papers date from 1916 to 1980 and reflect Bearup's continuing interest and involvement in broadcasting. The collection includes personal and business correspondence; diaries and notebooks; copies of speeches, broadcasts, articles or accounts written by Bearup or others; pamphlets, booklets, journals, and books; programmes, menus, cards, and invitations; certificates and other personal papers; some family papers; photographs, drawings, maps and plans; badges and other objects; and press clippings. In addition, there are also some papers relating to the various positions Bearup occupied during his broadcasting career. A large proportion of the material in this collection covers the period from 1946 to 1962 which Bearup spent in London as the Australian Broadcasting Commission's (ABC) overseas representative.

The collection comprises the manuscript of an unpublished novel, 'Flood waters', a 1932 confidential diary kept while Groom was working at O'Reilly's Guesthouse on the Lamington Plateau in southeast Queensland, a diary of a 1952 trip taken in preparation for writing Wealth in the wilderness (1955) and correspondence relating to the trip. There are also newspaper cuttings, a manuscript for an article 'Beef will be scarce and dear' (1952?), Groom's honorary ranger badge and an 1897 petition by Susan Grace Lambert regarding land in Tasmania held by the Groom family.

The great bulk of this collection is correspondence files with various subject headings. There are also minutes, financial records, maps, plans, photographs, news cuttings, printed material. All aspects of the Australian Inland Mission (A.I.M.) are represented, including history, the Aerial Medical Service, hospitals and hostels, United Church in Northern Australia, National and State Councils, publicity material, Far North Children's Health Scheme, Federal Methodist Inland Mission, patrol padres, Rev. John Flynn and Rev. Fred McKay. Also several artefacts and pieces of A.I.M. equipment.
