This collection comprises material collected by Somerville relating to individuals and organisations active in the pacifist movement in Australia in 1940-1974. There are circulars, pamphlets and newsletters printed by organisations such as the Christian Pacifist Movement of Victoria, the Central Committee of Conscientious Objectors, the Association for International Co-operation and Disarmament (NSW) and the Peace News Limited. Correspondence between Somerville and significant Australians like H. V. Evatt related to conscientious objectors such as Leslie Warren Hoey, Lloyd Butler and Bill Tarry.

The collection comprises photographic prints, negatives, publications and ephemera documenting the political, cultural and social life of Melbourne in the mid 1990s, with a focus on marginal groups and protest movements. These groups and movements include: biker groups; Vietnam Veterans, conflict between anti-immigration and anti-racism groups, and the female ordination movement. These photographs were taken while Janet Hawkins was completing four years of study at Photography Studies College in Melbourne.

MS 9118 comprises articles and newspaper clippings relating to Barry Coldrey's work on child sexual abuse and child migration. The collection includes four bound volumes of photocopied newspaper clippings titled "Western Australian Christian Brothers boys homes and child migration, 1992-3", "Newspaper comment concerning the child migration controversy. Book two", "Sexual abuse crisis: Canadian Catholic Church, 1989-1997", and "The sexual abuse crisis: Australian Catholic Church, 1990s". The collection also contains drafts of a series of articles on the sexual abuse of children since the early 19th century, articles on Christian Brothers' orphanages and the draft of a longer paper titled, "The sexual abuse question" (3 boxes).The Acc08/187 instalment comprises research articles on British and Maltese child migration, Coldrey's submission to a Senate inquiry into child migration, related research notes, correspondence, photographs and copies of journal articles by others on the same subject (1 box).The Acc09.32 instalment includes photocopies of newsclippings from Canadian newspapers relating to the sexual abuse crisis in the Canadian Church 1989-1997 (1 packet).The Acc09.47 instalment is a small collection of material written by Coldrey and gathered from the press regarding sexual abuse in the Catholic Church by clergy (1 packet).The Acc09.120 instalment consists of two spiral bound volumes of the author's news clippings. Volume 1 is mostly concerned with child migration or sexual abuse in orphanages. The second volume contains correspondence relating to and reviews of Coldrey's book, Faith and fatherland: the Christian Brothers and the development of Irish nationalism 1838-1921, published in 1988. Most articles are dated and attributed but are not in order of publication (1 packet).The Acc10.13 instalment consists of a spiral-bound volume titled References to Brother Barry Coldrey's writings in international newspapers, 1990 to 2009, containing printouts of online news articles relating to sexual abuse by clergy in the Catholic Church (1 v.).The Acc18.135 instalment comprises further papers, writings and reflections on the Christian Brothers regarding the decline of the Christian Brothers organisation. This collection comprises material relating to Bishop William Morris' book titled: 'Benedict, Me and the Cardinals Three: the story of the dismissal of Bishop William Morris by Pope Benedict XVI' that discusses Morris' removal from pastoral care of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba by the Holy See in May 2011. The collection includes numerous letters, emails and cards from parishioners, priests, bishops, solicitors and laity, and articles sent to Bishop Morris after his forced retirement. Included also are letters to Bishop Morris from the Parish and agencies in the diocese expressing sadness re his forced retirement.

This collection comprises a large group of correspondence, both to and from Northcote Deck, mostly relating to his time with the South Seas Evangelical Mission (SSEM). His letters out contain detailed descriptions of his day-to-day life and issues arising in the Solomon Islands at that time. There is also a large group of Northcote Deck's writings including published and typescript versions of many of his articles, mostly intended for publication in Not in Vain, the SSEM journal, copies of his published books and drafts of a book on the Solomon Islands. Other material includes Queensland Kanaka Mission annual reports; issues of Not in Vain; and notebooks and loose pages of notes, most of a religious nature. The subject of the photographic material in the collection is mainly life and people in the Solomon Islands and is in the form of black and white photographs; black and white glass negatives, including family photographs taken by Harold Cazneaux; and coloured glass slides, used by Northcote Deck for presentations in Australia, England and Canada.

This collection comprises papers of Kevin Thomas Kelly (1910-1994), who was involved with Catholic intellectual life in Melbourne in the 1930's - 1950's. The papers document his education, at De la Salles college, early membership of the Campion Society; his role in establishing the Catholic Evidence Guild and introducing to Australia and fostering the Young Christian Workers (YCW), a movement founded by Belgian priest Joseph Cardijn (Jeunesse Ouvrière Chrétienne de France J.O.C.). Also included are papers relating to the 'Catholic Worker' and 'The Advocate' newspapers; the establishment of the Australian National Secretariat of Catholic Action (ANSCA); correspondence including with James and Sara Scullin, Jacques Maritain, Louise Massignon, Thomas Butler, Owen McCann and Robert Kothen; drafts of the first three chapters of his autobiography titled 'Ballarat', 'Bairnsdale' and 'Malvern'; and books and pamphlets written or edited by Kelly and works on the Young Christian Workers (YCW) in French by Kothen.

Abstract Or Scope
This collection comprises papers that document West's life and career over a substantial period of time. A large group of the papers relate to West's writings and include manuscript drafts of many of his novels; scripts for plays; scripts for film adaptations of several of his novels; drafts of articles he wrote; and typescripts of speeches. There are newspaper and journal cuttings of articles written by or about West, together with reviews of many of his publications. There is also correspondence relating to publication of West's book and also certificates and significant literary awards he received. Other correspondence includes letters between West and his friend G. Emmett Cardinal Carter, Archbishop Emeritus of Toronto, letters to West from Alfred Hitchcock, Estee Lauder, Pat[ricia] Nixon, HM Queen Frederica of Greece, and Miles, Duke of Norfolk and carbon copies of West's letters to Father Tony Glynn in Japan. Also included are condolences received by West's family on his death in 1999.
